What It Can Do

The new wonder machine made excellent sandwiches last night, as you can see from the pictures. Thick slices of homemade bread spread with ranch dressing on the inside and margarine on the outside, filled with slices of turkey breast and swiss cheese, and topped with grilled onions and red peppers... these were really delicious. When lowered, the top of the press levels itself off to be parallel to the bottom of the grill and its weight slowly compacts the bread and fillings evenly without causing any sliding. Will wonders never cease?!

Tonight I grilled pork sirloin chops to perfection (almost) and topped them with apple slices cooked in a sauce made of brown sugar, water, cinnamon and a dash of salt, then thickened with corn starch. Very good. A new recipe for broccoli accompanied the chops, which was especially yummy and a keeper.

Mike had hot cocoa for dessert and I had sugared almonds. Felt like kings and queens, we did, we did.

  1. Diane, that machine is much like my Cuisinart Griddler which I love. But, I must tell you about a class I took last night "The Magic of Beans". We all know that eating beans is a thing we can do to help lower cholesterol, help weight loss because it delays hunger-satiety, decreases risk of colon cancer, etc.
So this class was taught by a "Certified in Family and Consumer Science" person. (I imagine that is what Sue Brodersen is). She said that you can't believe all nutritional information you see in books etc. unless you know the source of that information. While CFCS people know a lot, a Registered Dietician or R.D. is the best. She cans her own beans but the canned beans are fine, just rinse them to remove extra sodium, etc. We had a meal (some items good, some not so). I had a muffin for breakfast that was delicious (I brought home from the meeting last night). It was a Blueberry Bean Muffin and the beans used were red kidney beans! If you want the recipe I'll give it to you.
    Diane, I love your blog.
